JUSTIN GROVE
PRESIDENT | TECHNICAL DIRECTOR

Justin Grove brings a wealth of playing and coaching experience to Grove United. Grove is a former professional player for the Richmond Kickers in the United States. He has international playing experience with professional French club Red Star FC and semi-pro South African clubs Magic FC and Grassy Park Utd. Before going abroad, Grove was a full-scholarship player at the University of Richmond in the NCAA Division I.
Justin Grove is certified by the French Football Federation, United States Soccer Federation, Scottish Football Association, and the Irish Football Association and holds a UEFA B license (2026 UEFA A candidate). He coached at the Red Star FC Academy in Paris, France which has developed numerous professional players throughout all levels of professional soccer. He has over 15 years of experience coaching in the United States, South Africa, and France. Grove has developed players who are currently playing in pro clubs, semi-pro clubs, and on scholarship in the United States NCAA.
Grove has a Master's degree in Business from the University of Paris 10 and a Bachelor's degree in International Relations from the University of Richmond. He brings his academic background to the Grove United program to guide players in their development off the pitch and in their college recruitment process.

JEFF GETTLER
DIRECTOR OF COACHING

Grove United is pleased to announce Jeff Gettler as its Director of Coaching.
Jeff Gettler brings a wealth of experience to Grove United, having 39 years of collegiate coaching experience and 308 NCAA men’s soccer victories. Gettler spent 33 years as a collegiate head coach including 14 years (1995-2008) at the University of Richmond [NCAA I], and four years (1991-94) leading Lafayette College [NCAA I], which featured a combined three teams making the national final. He also spent nine years (1982-90) at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst [NCAA I], four years (1978-81) leading Bates College [NCAA III], and two years (1976-77) at the University of Massachusetts-Lowell [NCAA II].
Gettler spent six seasons (2010-15) as coach and Deputy Director of Athletics at Husson University [NCAA III], leading the Eagles to three conference titles and three national tournament appearances. In 2009, Gettler was an assistant coach at Bradley University [NCAA I], working alongside head coach Jim DeRose, one of his former assistant coaches.
While at the University of Richmond, Gettler led the spiders to a top 20 national ranking for a number of years, culminating in a 1998 CAA Championship and an automatic NCAA tournament berth. That team was captained by current Director of Goalkeeping, Adrian Clewlow. They also earned their first-ever NCAA at-large berth in 2002, making their third all-time appearance in the postseason. In 2003, the University of Richmond won its first Atlantic 10 regular season title with its eighth consecutive winning season.
In addition to his collegiate career, Gettler has over 10 years of experience as a Director of Coaching in both state associations and youth clubs. In these roles, he won several U17 & U19 league titles, took his U17 & U19 teams to national championships and managed a staff of over 30 coaches on coaching development. He also initiated, organized, taught, and administered the state association coaching certificate program, having licensed over 270 coaches.
Gettler is one of the most decorated coaches in the region, holding numerous licenses and certificates and boasting years of international experience. Among Gettler's credentials are a U.S. Soccer A license, FA International Coaching certificate (Bisham Abbey, England), KNVB certificate (Zeist, Holland), DFB International Trainer-Kongress (Aachen, Germany) and a CBD diploma (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil). In addition, he has attended the B license coaching course in Toronto, Canada and two English FA's Managers and Coaches courses in Cheshire, England.
Gettler holds a master's degree in Human Movement from Boston University and a bachelor of arts from Lycoming. With his years of college recruiting experience and an extensive coaching network he will help to guide our players in their college recruitment process.
Gettler has been thoroughly involved with the United Soccer Coaches Association and its coaching education programs since entering the field. As a 37 year member of the NSCAA/USC, he has served as a National Staff Coach for the Academy, a Clinician at the National Convention in '84, '90, and '94, he hosted and organized four Regional Conventions in New England, and was the National Convention Program Director for the NSCAA National Conventions in '85, '86, and '87. Gettler was a USSF national staff coach, licensing coaches for national C, B, and A levels of certification.
Eighteen of his assistant coaches progressed to head and assistant college coaching positions, as his infectious passion for the game influenced others to pursue college coaching careers.
Gettler will oversee the coaching development, curriculum design, and player development within Grove United. He will work with the technical staff to refine training methods and will work with Grove United players to make a direct impact in players’ progress.

LUCA THABET
GROVE UNITED ACADEMY DIRECTOR

Grove United is thrilled to announce Luca Thabet as our new Academy Director, reinforcing our commitment to excellence in youth development and player pathways.
Coach Luca joins Grove United from MLS NEXT club Sporting Springfield, where he served as a Director of Coaching, leading high-level player development and coaching education initiatives at the top tier of U.S. youth soccer.
With over eight years of head coaching experience across all ages and genders, Luca brings a deep passion for leadership, mentorship, and giving back through the game.
Throughout his career, he has held multiple leadership roles, including Director of Coaching, Assistant Director of Coaching (Boys & Girls), Club Manager, ADP Director, and Founder/Director of Futsal United.

From playing futsal in Egypt to competing semi-professionally with Charlottesville FC and Grove United, Luca has dedicated his life to the beautiful game.

SAM BECKMAN

The Grove Soccer Academy is pleased to welcome Sam Beckman to its coaching staff.
Coach Sam is a Richmond native growing up as a player in the Richmond Strikers academy programs. Sam went on to play college soccer at Bridgewater College. He further honed his skills during a transformative year with the Northumbria University soccer and futsal teams and the I2I Soccer Academy in Newcastle, England. Sam is currently playing for the Grove United first team. During these experiences, Sam has encountered and learned from high-level coaches with many different perspectives on the game.
Beyond the field, Coach Sam earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from Bridgewater College and a Master of Science in International Sport Management from Northumbria University. Sam holds a Welch C license and is a 2026 UEFA B candidate through the Scottish FA. Sam is devoted to working with young players to build good habits to help them improve and reach their potential on and off the pitch.

ADRIAN CLEWLOW
ACGK DIRECTOR | DIRECTOR OF GOALKEEPING | PRO GROUP ASSISTANT

Grove Soccer is proud to be in partnership with one of the top GK Academies in the country, ACGK. Originally from Dover, England, Adrian Clewlow is the owner and GK Director of ACGK, LLC, and holds a FA Youth Coaching Certification, NSCAA Director of Coaching Diploma, NSCAA Advanced National Diploma, NSCAA Advanced National Goalkeeping Diploma and is a USSF licensed coach.
Clewlow played in the youth and academy teams for both Gillingham F.C. and Chelsea F.C. in England, and also represented England at the U-18 schoolboy level, making his debut against Switzerland in Zurich.
He later attended the University of Richmond, where he was a four-year starter and two-year captain for the Richmond Spiders. Nominated as the CAA Rookie of the Year, and a two-time All-South Regional All-American in his final two seasons, Clewlow led the team to the 1998 CAA Championship.
Clewlow’s professional playing career included stints with the Pittsburgh Riverhounds, New Orleans Storm, and two seasons with the Richmond Kickers, before coaching college soccer at Randolph-Macon College, Franklin Pierce University, and the University of Richmond. He also served as the Goalkeeping Coach for the Richmond Kickers Pro Soccer Club in the USL League One and served as the Director of Goalkeeping for the Richmond Kickers Youth Soccer Club.

JOHN ROACH

Grove United is thrilled to welcome former professional player, coach, and manager John Roach to our Academy staff!
A Scottish native, Roach began his career in Glasgow, Scotland with Partick Thistle F.C. before making his mark in the U.S. at Robert Morris University, where he played in two NCAA Tournaments and helped his team achieve a top-12 national ranking.
With over 25 years of coaching experience in the United States and a USSF B License, Coach Roach brings elite player development expertise to Grove United. He will serve as the U13 Head Coach and U12 Development Advisor, using his vast knowledge and dedication to player development to help young players maximize their potential.
We are excited to have Coach Roach on board and can’t wait to see the impact he makes on our players!

The Grove Soccer Academy is pleased to welcome Matt Verdisco to its coaching staff.
Coach Verdisco is a specialist in youth development with over 20 years of coaching experience. He has led elite teams from U9 through semi-pro, bringing a deep understanding of long-term player development and performance standards. Matt holds a Welsh C License and a coaching certificate through the Scottish FA, further strengthening his technical expertise and player-focused coaching approach.
We are excited to have Coach Verdisco as part of our team.

EVAN BLOW
GROVE UNITED ACADEMY COACH

Grove United is excited to welcome former professional player and college coach Evan Blow to our Academy staff.
Blow currently serves as the Assistant Men’s Coach at Randolph-Macon College. Coach Blow brings valuable European professional experience from Croatia’s third division, where he recorded a goal and two assists, in addition to his stints in Germany.
Evan is integrating his European playing experience with a European education. Evan holds his UEFA C license and is advancing through the UEFA Coaching Development Pathway with the Welsh FA. We are thrilled to have Coach Blow on board and look forward to providing aspiring players top-tier coaching from a seasoned pro with college coaching experience.

WILLIAM HOWARD
GROVE UNITED ACADEMY COACH

Grove United is proud to announce the appointment of Will Howard to a new coaching position, recognizing the depth of experience he brings as both a player and coach across multiple competitive levels.
Howard spent four years playing at NCAA Division I University of Louisville, where he was a key contributor to the team’s 2018 ACC Championship title. After concluding his collegiate playing career, he transitioned into coaching with a two-year stint at Canisius College, where his teams achieved two nationally ranked statistical milestones.
In addition to his success at the collegiate level, Will brings a strong and well-rounded coaching background to his new role at Grove United. He began his coaching career at Division II Lees-McRae College and has a long-standing connection to Grove United—first as a player for three seasons, then as a coach for the past two years. Over the last four years, he has also provided private coaching with ACGK, sharpening his skills in individual player development and leadership.
Will is also committed to continued coaching education and growth. He is currently on the Welsh Football Association’s coaching development track and has completed his Welsh FA Level 1 license, adding an international dimension to his coaching toolkit and expanding his perspective on player development and methodology.
Grove United is excited to welcome him into this new chapter and is confident in the positive impact he will continue to have on the club’s growth and success.

ANDY BOSAK
GROVE UNITED ACADEMY COACH

We’re thrilled to announce that Coach Andy Bosak has joined Grove United!
Coach Bosak brings nearly 25 years of coaching experience across academy, high school, collegiate, and semi-professional levels. He currently serves as a Full Professor and Director of Graduate Exercise Science programs at Liberty University and holds a PhD from the University of Alabama.
His coaching journey began while playing semi-professionally in Canada and continued after injuries ended his playing career. He brings valuable college coaching experience, having served as an assistant coach for both the men’s and women’s teams at Georgia Southwestern State University. In addition, he guided his U19 women’s club team to multiple Georgia state championships and tournament titles.
Currently, he leads the varsity program at New Covenant Schools, where he has coached teams to multiple VISAA Division III state finals. As a former sports scientist with the Professional Referee Organization, Coach Bosak combines high-level academic and practical insight. He holds certifications from both the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), has presented at over 130 professional conferences, and is the author or co-author of more than 80 peer-reviewed publications. He also co-edited a soccer-specific issue of the Strength and Conditioning Journal. In addition to his academic and professional credentials, he holds a Welsh FA Level 1 license and is currently pursuing his Welsh FA C-License.
Coach Bosak’s leadership, knowledge, and passion for the game is a tremendous asset to our players and staff. We’re excited to welcome him into the Grove United family and look forward to the impact he’ll make!
